Every owner of Utopia MediSpa has someone in their lives, whom they love deeply, impacted by a disability.
We have learned to adapt to, celebrate, and support the differences these wonderful people have brought to our lives. Because of this, we are strong advocates for the promotion of inclusion and acceptance of differently abled individuals from a young age. We understand the struggles associated with living with disability, for both those directly impacted as well as for their families and caregivers. Receiving intervention early from highly trained professionals can add critical tools to a lifelong learning toolbox that will better equip everyone for the future.
April is the month of Autism Awareness and we felt it was no better time to shine a light on this wonderful local program for children in the Edmonton community.
Getting Ready for Inclusion Today (GRIT), is an Edmonton-based non-profit for kids ages 3-5 who are pending diagnosis or have been diagnosed with some form of disability. GRIT’s community-focused programming provides supports for children and families during routine endeavours, such as speech, pre-school support, and toilet-training, to more
substantial behavioral concerns, such as bolting, assisting with swimming lessons, restaurant outings, and providing in-home family education and support.
“Our son, Patrick, joined the GRIT program in 2018 when he was 3 years old, while awaiting what was ultimately a severe autism diagnosis. In the time that he spent there, he went from being a violent stay-at-home toddler to a well-adjusted little boy in public kindergarten. He spent a great deal of time with each member of his GRIT team; they were so caring and engaged. We still maintain connections with many of these wonderful people today. The gratitude we have for this irreplaceable program cannot be overstated.”
