Lotions vs. Creams

Writer: Kati LuknowskyKati Luknowsky

Just like hydration and moisture are completely different things, so are lotions and creams. A lotion is water-based and designed to hydrate deep into the skin. A cream is oil-based and designed to seal in moisture at the surface and protect the skin. Both are important but they are used to target different concerns. You would also want to use a lotion or hydrator prior to using a cream, as the cream creates

a barrier upon application.

A humectant is a product that both hydrates AND moisturizes through specific processes that attract water into the tissues. These products are meant for intensive relief of dry, scaly skin. Many Footlogix products are humectants. ✅

For facial skin care, we recommend using a range of products designed to treat each layer of the skin. Serums, oils, and concentrates penetrate deep into the 5th layer of the dermis, whereas a masque reaches up to the 4th. Moisturizers sit on the surface to seal in product and protect from environmental factors. Applying products in that order will also help facilitate optimal absorption.
